This autumn, a truly exceptional exhibition awaits us. For the first time, two of the most celebrated portrait painters of the Dutch Golden Age, Frans Hals and Rembrandt van Rijn, will share the spotlight at the Frans Hals Museum. Hals and Rembrandt in dialogue

This unique exhibition brings together nineteen masterpieces by Hals and Rembrandt. From striking portraits of governors and musicians to moving depictions of children, each work reveals how both artists had an extraordinary ability to bring the personalities of their sitters to life. Few painters captured the human being behind the portrait as convincingly as they did. Yet each achieved this in their own personal way, making this remarkable encounter all the more fascinating.

Art for eternity

Discover Rembrandt's richly layered painting technique alongside Hals's confident and energetic brushwork. In this lecture, teacher Birgitte Mommers will guide you through some of their most extraordinary masterpieces, which continue to captivate audiences to this day. The more you know, the more you see.
