There is so much to discover in this wonderful building in the heart of the city of Amsterdam. The strict and formal architecture of the facade reveals a rich interior with sculptures and paintings. Built in the second half of the 17th century the Royal Palace was originally planned as the town hall. Considering the prosperity of business, Amsterdam and its inhabitants thought they were the centre of the world, actually even the centre of the universe! This concept is represented throughout the entire building. Fee:
Later, in the early 19th century, King Lodewijk Napoleon claimed the town hall as his palace. During his reign the French Empire style was in fashion and you will see this reflected in the decoration of the interiors. Recently the Palace has been renovated. The wonderful chandeliers, antique furniture, rugs and tapestries and so on are polished, pressed and preserved. The Royal Family are not the only ones that can enjoy this hidden treasure of Amsterdam. The public is welcome to share and benefit from the glory as well! During the tour an art historian will lead you through an intriguing history of art and culture from the grand old days.
